You sell on Amazon. You know the FBA rate. But do you know that Amazon France charges €4.39 for FBA fulfilment on a product that costs €2.78 in Germany? That Amazon Ireland charges 0% Digital Services Tax while Amazon France charges 3% on every seller? That eBay Spain takes 9% commission on Home & Garden while eBay US takes 12.7%? That Shopify Australia charges 1.75% for payment processing while the US charges 2.9%?
Every marketplace publishes its own fee schedule. None of them reference each other. A seller on Amazon US has no way of knowing the Amazon UK rate is different without finding the UK rate card and reading it separately. The platform holds 26 marketplace fee structures — 8,874 fee records — each extracted from its own published documentation. Not one copied from another. Here's what the differences actually cost.
Amazon US, UK, DE, FR, IT, ES, NL, BE, SE, PL, IE. Same platform. Same seller account (for EU). Different rates on nearly every fee line. The differences are published. They're just published in 11 different places.
A product classified as Large envelope (≤960g) on Amazon's EU marketplaces — same size tier name, same weight — pays different fulfilment rates depending on which country's fulfilment centre ships it:
| Marketplace | FBA rate (Local/Pan-EU, non-peak) | vs Germany |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon DE | €2.78 | — |
| Amazon UK | £2.72 (~€3.17) | +14% |
| Amazon FR | €4.39 | +57% |
| Amazon IT | Same as FR (Pan-EU rates) | +57% |
| Amazon ES | Same as FR (Pan-EU rates) | +57% |
At 10,000 units/year: Amazon FR costs €16,100 more in fulfilment than Amazon DE. Same product. Same size. Same weight. Different country.
So what? In Pan-EU, Amazon distributes your inventory across fulfilment centres in multiple countries. Where it ships FROM determines the rate — and you don't control that. If you're in Pan-EU and most of your French orders ship from a French FC, you're paying French rates — not German. A seller who assumes "EU rates" are uniform is wrong by up to 57%.

Amazon charges a Digital Services Tax (DST) based on two factors: the marketplace you sell on AND where your business is established. The matrix is different on every marketplace:
| Marketplace | UK seller | FR seller | IT/ES seller | DE/NL/Other seller |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon DE | 2% | 3% | 3% | 0% |
| Amazon FR | 3% | 3% | 3% | 3% |
| Amazon IT | 3% | 3% | 3% | 3% |
| Amazon ES | 3% | 3% | 3% | 3% |
| Amazon IE | 0% | 0% | 0% | 0% |
| Amazon UK | 2% | 3% | 3% | 2% |
| Amazon NL | 2% | 3% | 3% | 0% |
Amazon Ireland charges 0% DST on every seller. Amazon France charges 3% on every seller regardless of establishment. A UK seller on Amazon FR pays 3%. The same seller on Amazon IE pays 0%. On €7.50 in platform fees per unit at 10,000 units: €2,250/year difference — determined entirely by which marketplace the sale happens on.
So what? A multi-marketplace EU seller has sales across several of these marketplaces. The DST on each sale depends on both the marketplace AND the seller's country. A UK-established seller pays 2% on Amazon DE but 3% on Amazon FR. An Italian seller pays 3% on Amazon DE. A German seller pays 0% on Amazon DE but 3% on Amazon FR. No spreadsheet does this across 11 marketplaces × 6 establishment scenarios simultaneously.

| Region | Surcharge on FBA fulfilment |
|---|---|
| Amazon US | 3.5% |
| Amazon UK + all EU | 1.5% |
On a $3.68 US FBA fee: $0.13/unit surcharge. On a £2.72 UK FBA fee: £0.04/unit. A multi-marketplace seller on both US and UK pays different surcharge rates on the same product. At 10,000 units per marketplace: $1,300 (US) vs ~£400 (UK). The US surcharge is more than triple the UK surcharge.
So what? The fuel surcharge isn't on the rate card page — on any marketplace. It's on a separate page, and the rate differs by region.

Amazon US charges a flat 15% referral on Home and Kitchen — every price.
Amazon UK and all EU marketplaces charge a banded rate on Home Products:
| Price | UK/EU rate | US rate |
|---|---|---|
| ≤ £20 / €20 | 8% | 15% |
| > £20 / €20 | 15% | 15% |
A product priced at £19.99 on Amazon UK pays 8% (£1.60). The same product at the equivalent price on Amazon US pays 15% ($3.75). The UK referral fee is less than half the US fee — at this price point.
So what? A UK seller pricing at £21 pays 15% (£3.15). At £19.99, they'd pay 8% (£1.60). That's £1.55/unit — £7,750/year at 5,000 units. The threshold exists in UK and all EU marketplaces but not in the US. A seller who only checks US rates doesn't know this threshold exists.

eBay's commission rates vary by marketplace AND by category — and the categories aren't named the same way across countries.
Home & Garden products on eBay — the commission rate depends on which marketplace you sell on:
| Marketplace | FVF rate (Home equivalent) | On a $25/£20/€20 product |
|---|---|---|
| eBay US (Basic Store, Schedule B) | 12.7% | $3.18 |
| eBay UK | 11.9% | £2.38 |
| eBay DE | 12.0% | €2.40 |
| eBay IT | 11.0% | €2.20 |
| eBay ES | 9.0% | €1.80 |
eBay Spain charges 9% on Home & Garden. eBay US charges 12.7%. That's a 29% lower commission rate. On 10,000 units at €20: €3,800/year less in commission on eBay Spain vs eBay US.
So what? A multi-marketplace eBay seller has different commission rates on every marketplace. The category names are different too — UK uses "Home, Furniture & DIY," US uses "Home & Garden," Spain uses "Home, garden & DIY." A seller comparing eBay fees across countries in a spreadsheet has to find the right category name on each marketplace's fee page, match them, and pull the rate.
And the penalties differ too. eBay US charges +6% for Below Standard and +5% for Very High INAD. eBay UK charges +6% for Below Standard and +4% for Very High INAD. Different penalty structures, different thresholds, different marketplaces.

eBay UK charges £0.10 per insertion beyond allocation — less than half the US $0.25. A seller with 500 listings beyond allocation: US pays $125/month. UK pays £50/month. Same platform, different insertion fee structure.

Shopify publishes different payment processing rates by country. The plan names are the same. The rates are not.
| Country | Basic rate (online, standard card) |
|---|---|
| United States | 2.9% + $0.30 |
| United Kingdom | 2.5% + £0.25* |
| Australia | 1.75% + A$0.30 |
| Singapore | 3.2% + S$0.50 |
| Germany | 2.1% + €0.30* |
*UK and DE rates indicative; verify against the current Shopify pricing page.
Australia's Basic plan charges 1.75% — 40% less than the US 2.9%. On a $25 product at 10,000 transactions/year: US pays approximately $10,250 in processing. Australia pays approximately $7,375. $2,875/year difference on the same plan, same product, different country.
Singapore charges 3.2% — higher than the US. A seller expanding from Australia to Singapore sees processing costs nearly double.
So what? Shopify sellers in different countries are paying different rates for the same plan. The plan upgrade crossovers are different by country — because the per-transaction saving from upgrading differs. An Australian seller upgrading from Basic to Grow saves less per transaction than a US seller (because the base rate is already lower), so the crossover volume is higher.

Walmart Marketplace operates in the US only. No regional fee variations within the platform. The platform holds all 143 Walmart US fee configurations — and the comparison to Amazon US is straightforward because there's no regional complexity.
So what? Walmart's simplicity is an asset for US-only sellers. One fee schedule, one marketplace, $0 subscription. The comparison to Amazon becomes clean — same country, same currency, same customer base.

A seller on Amazon UK, Amazon DE, Amazon FR, and eBay UK has four different commission structures, three different fulfilment rate cards, three different DST rates (based on where they're established), and two different fuel surcharge rates. Plus eBay's own FVF and insertion fee structures — different from all the Amazon marketplaces.
No spreadsheet tracks all of this simultaneously. No single-marketplace tool shows the cross-marketplace comparison. Same product, different marketplace, different cost. Every time.
