| Attribute | Value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Sale price | $25.00 | Determines referral fee AND which FBA price band applies |
| Category | Home and Kitchen | Sets the referral fee rate — 15% here, 8% in Consumer Electronics, 45% in Amazon Device Accessories |
| Shipping weight | 8 oz | Determines which FBA weight band — and the rate changes every few ounces |
| Dimensions | 14" × 4" × 2" | Determines the size tier. Longest side 14" puts this in Large standard (max 18"). |
| Size tier | Large standard | The fulfilment rate card. Different tiers pay different rates. |
| Fulfilment | FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon) | Amazon handles storage, packing, shipping, returns. The seller pays for the service. |
| Selling plan | Professional ($39.99/month) | The alternative is $0.99 per item — more expensive above ~40 units/month |
| Seller location | United States | A UK seller on the same marketplace pays more. A French seller pays more again. |
| Period | 2026 non-peak (Jan–Sep) | Storage rates nearly triple in Q4. Fulfilment rates have a separate peak schedule. |
Seven fees. Subtracted one at a time from the $25.00 sale price. Click any line to see how it's calculated and where the published rate comes from.
15% of the sale price. Fixed. Every seller in Home and Kitchen pays the same rate. No volume discount, no negotiation, no alternative.
Amazon publishes a referral fee rate for each product category. Home and Kitchen is 15%, applied to the total sale price. The published minimum referral fee is $0.30. At $25.00, the percentage-based amount ($3.75) exceeds the minimum, so the percentage applies.
The rate is different in other categories — 8% in Consumer Electronics, 12% in Automotive, 45% in Amazon Device Accessories. But within a category, every seller pays the same.

Set by four variables: size tier, weight band, product classification, and price. The same product at $9.99 pays a different fulfilment rate.
The FBA fulfilment fee for this product is determined by: size tier (Large standard), shipping weight band (4+ to 8 oz), product classification (non-apparel), and price band ($10–$50). In the 2026 non-peak period, the published rate is $3.95 per unit.
Below $10, the published rate drops to $3.13. Above $50, it rises to $4.21. Same product, same weight, same size — different rate because of the price.

3.5% of the FBA fulfilment fee, applied on top. Published on a separate page from the rate card. Most sellers don't know it exists.
Amazon applies a fuel and logistics surcharge as a percentage multiplier on every FBA fulfilment fee. For the US marketplace, the rate is 3.5%. On this product: 3.5% × $3.95 = $0.14 per unit. At 10,000 units per year: $1,400 in surcharges that aren't shown on the FBA fee schedule page most sellers check.
The surcharge rate differs by marketplace. Amazon UK: 1.5%. Amazon DE: 1.5%. A US seller pays more than double the surcharge rate of a UK seller.

$0.78 per cubic foot, off-peak. Sounds trivial at $0.05/unit. Peaks at $0.20 in Q4. Explodes if inventory sits.
This product occupies 0.065 cubic feet. At the off-peak rate ($0.78/cu ft), that's $0.05 per unit per month — assuming 30-day inventory turnover. During peak season (October–December), the rate jumps to $2.40 per cubic foot. And if inventory sits longer than 22 weeks, utilisation surcharges add $0.44 to $1.88 per cubic foot on top of the base rate.

Only $0.00 because the seller chose Amazon-optimised shipment splits. Choose minimal splits and this becomes $0.16–$0.32 per unit.
Amazon publishes inbound placement fees based on the shipment split option the seller selects. Amazon-optimised splits: $0.00. Minimal splits: $0.16–$0.32 per unit for this product. At 10,000 units per year, that's the difference between $0 and $1,600–$3,200 — determined entirely by a shipment configuration choice most sellers make without knowing what it costs.

Only $0.00 because this seller is US-established. A UK seller pays 2% extra. A French seller pays 3%. Same sale, same platform.
Amazon applies a Digital Services Fee for sellers established in countries with Digital Services Tax legislation. US-established sellers: 0%. UK-established sellers: 2%. France: 3%. Italy and Spain: 3%. This fee is invisible to US sellers. It's significant for everyone else.

Account-level, not per-unit. At 500 units/month: $0.08/unit. At 40 units/month: $1.00/unit. The alternative ($0.99/item) costs more above ~40 units.
The Professional selling plan costs $39.99 per month regardless of units sold. The Individual plan alternative is $0.99 per item sold. The crossover is around 40 units per month.

These insights only emerge when you hold the full fee structure — every rate card, every threshold, every programme — and compute against a specific product.
This product weighs exactly 8 oz — at the ceiling of the 4+ to 8 oz FBA weight band. If the product or packaging gains one ounce, the fulfilment fee jumps from $3.95 to $4.20.
That's $0.25 more per unit. Plus the fuel surcharge increases from $0.14 to $0.15. Total impact: $0.26 per unit. At 10,000 units per year: $2,600. Not because the product changed. Because the weight tipped into the next band.
This product is safe — for now. But if the supplier changes the packaging, if a new label adds weight, if Amazon re-weighs during check-in at 8.2 oz — $2,600. The platform maps your product's exact position against every band boundary and flags when you're close.

The Digital Services Fee is 0% for US sellers. 2% for UK sellers. 3% for French, Italian, and Spanish sellers. On the same product, on the same marketplace, on the same sale.
A UK-established seller pays an additional 2% on selling and fulfilment fees. That's approximately $0.15 per unit. At 10,000 units per year: $1,500 in extra cost — not because of different rates, not because of a different marketplace, but because of where the seller's business is registered.
Most international sellers don't discover this fee until it appears on their settlement statement. It's published on a single Seller Central page that most sellers never visit. The platform routes every seller through the correct fee configuration based on their entity type and establishment country.

Ships in Product Packaging (SIPP) is Amazon's programme for products that ship in their own packaging without an overbox. This product qualifies. The discount is $0.04 per unit. The certification is free.
| Without SIPP | SIPP enrolled | Difference | |
|---|---|---|---|
| FBA fulfilment fee | $3.95 | $3.95 | — |
| SIPP discount | — | −$0.04 | −$0.04 |
| Net fulfilment cost | $3.95 | $3.91 | −$0.04/unit |
$0.04 per unit sounds small. At 10,000 units per year: $400. The certification is free. And $0.04 is for this weight band — a Large standard 3+ to 20 lb item carries a SIPP discount of $0.23 per unit ($2,300/year at the same volume).
The platform holds 1,682 eligibility requirements across all four platforms — programmes, tiers, rates, and configurations that a seller may qualify for and never know exist. Your product qualifies for a different set than this example.

The FBA fee schedule says $3.68 for this product. That's the number every fee calculator uses. It's wrong.
Amazon applies a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on top of every FBA fulfilment fee. It's published — on a separate page. The rate card doesn't include it. Your calculator doesn't know it exists.
| What the rate card shows | What you actually pay | |
|---|---|---|
| FBA fulfilment | $3.68 | $3.81 |
| Fuel surcharge (3.5%) | not shown | +$0.13 |
$0.13 per unit. $1,300 per year at 10,000 units. Invisible on the fee page. Applied to every FBA order.
And if you sell on Amazon UK or EU, the surcharge is 1.5% — not 3.5%. Same platform, same service, different cost.

Most sellers evaluate an eBay store subscription on one number: the 0.9% commission saving. At $21.95/month, you need 100 units/month to break even. Seems marginal. Most small sellers skip it.
They're evaluating one cost line. Three actually move.
| What changes | No Store | Basic Store |
|---|---|---|
| Final value fee schedule | 13.6% (Schedule A) | 12.7% (Schedule B) |
| Insertion fee (beyond allocation) | $0.35 per listing | $0.25 per listing |
| Zero-insertion-fee listings | 250/month | 1,000/month |
A seller with 500 active listings and no store pays $0.35 × (500 − 250 free) = $87.50/month in insertion fees. A Basic store seller with 500 listings pays $0 — because 500 is within the 1,000 free allocation.
The insertion fee saving alone is $87.50/month. The subscription costs $21.95/month (annual billing). That's $65.55/month — $787/year — being burned because the seller evaluated the subscription on the commission saving and missed the other two cost lines entirely.
And that's before the performance penalties — +6% on commission for falling Below Standard. $15,000/year at 10,000 units.

WFS charges $3.45. FBA charges $3.68. Walmart is $0.23 cheaper per unit. But that's the smallest part of the story.
Walmart's New-Seller Savings programme offers 20–40% off referral fees — tiered by GMV, up to $72,000 in total savings. Plus a 10% WFS discount (capped at $2,000), $500 in advertising credits, and SEM credits. Auto-enrolled. Most new sellers don't know the programme exists beyond the WFS discount.
At $250K in first-year GMV on a 15% referral category: $10,500 in referral savings + $2,000 WFS + $500 ad credits = $13,250 in year one. Then Pro Listing Savings kicks in — 5–10% off referral fees permanently.

Sellers think payment processing costs "about 3%." It doesn't. On a $25 sale, the actual cost ranges from $0.75 to $1.53 depending on the plan, the card type, and the processor — a 2× spread on the same product.
The $5,000 mistake: A seller on the Basic plan using a third-party payment processor pays Shopify an additional 2.0% transaction fee — on top of whatever the processor charges. That's $0.50 extra per $25 transaction. $5,000/year at 10,000 transactions. One setting. One click. $5,000.
The $1,300 you can't see: A seller with 20% Amex and 15% international cards pays approximately $1.16 per transaction — not $1.03. $1,300/year more than the headline rate, driven by which cards the customers use.
